Yelagiri is a small hill station located near Vaniyambadi and Tripattur. It is a frequent weekend getaway for most
people living in Vellore district. The place is also popular among people from
other states who wish to relax away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Since we had planned only a day trip we visited only the Punganoor lake- cum park and Nature park.
Punganoor lake has a boating facility as well and is well maintained. You can also enjoy walking around the lake or sit on the benches and enjoy the scenery.

There is also a small cottage which is constructed at the centre and you have to walk on the wooden sticks to reach there.

Nature park was a delight. It had well laid out plants, fountain, clean and open space, aquarium, bamboo house and water cascade. There is also a musical fountain show at
night. We could also sit and relax on the lush green park and enjoy nature’s
beauty. There is also a small play area for children in both the places.

There are also other places worth visiting but we could not fit them in our schedule. Planning to visit Yelagiri again and stay for a couple of days.
Note
- There are plenty of hotels and guest houses and all the good ones get filled during weekends. It is better to book rooms in advance.
- It is better to have your own mode of transportation as it is difficult to find cabs or autos there. You can travel in your car or hire a cab. Even though PTC buses are available they are usually overcrowded.
- We had packed our picnic basket with home food and hence did not visit any hotel there. We also brought paper plates, mats and a cane of water as drinking water is not easily available there.
- There is also small eatery inside the Punganoor lake- cum park as well where food is available but can’t say about the taste or standard. We only bought chocobars and cup ice creams as only those were available in the ice cream counter.
- I guess the food served in the hotels and guest houses would be good.
- Please don’t imagine it to be like Kodai kanal or Ooty. It needs some more development but you can enjoy its beauty as it is.
Beautiful place..nice pictures!! 😀
